The Book of Glory is structured as follows:

I. The Foot Washing, the Betrayal, and the New Commandment (13:1-38)

II. The Farewell Discourse, and Jesus’ Final Prayer (14:1-17:26)

III. The Passion Narrative (18:1-19:42)

IV. The Empty Tomb (20:1-31)

V. The Epilogue: Jesus’ Final Appearance to the Disciples (21:1-25)

The final chapters of John’s Gospel are called the Book of Glory because they unveil the ultimate purpose and splendour of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Unlike the Book of Signs, which invites belief through miracles, the Book of Glory reveals God’s love through Jesus’ obedience, humility, and victory over death. He opens His heart to His disciples, gives the command to love, and points to the cross as the way to true life. Scholars have observed that the first half of the Gospel (John 1–12) covers Jesus’ three-year public ministry, whereas the second half (John 13–19) focuses on events that unfold within a single twenty-four-hour period in Jerusalem.
