The Gospel of John has often been described as shallow enough for a child to wade in and yet deep enough for an elephant to swim. Its language is simple and its images familiar, such as light and darkness, bread and water, life and belief, so that even a young reader can grasp its central message that Jesus is the Son of God who gives life. Yet beneath this simplicity lies remarkable depth. Each sign, dialogue, and symbol carries layers of meaning that reward careful reflection. John’s Gospel, therefore, offers an inexhaustible richness to readers who return again and again.
